How We Teach

We teach Shamanism here in a traditional manner.  Whether a person is aware of it or not, whether s/he is practicing Shamanism or not, s/he brings her life lessons to herself based on her own response to and interaction with people and events in her life.

We learn Shamanism by learning to look at those events and relationships in our lives from a Shamanic perspective, and we do that with the help of our teacher and the other members of our Shamanic community.

Shamanism is a path which has to be walked, to be experienced, to be learned.  It needs to be integrated into our daily lives to be fully understood.  That’s nearly impossible to do by studying in a western, book-learning, mental bodied way.

As well, Shamanism must be studied within the framework of a single tradition, whichever that tradition may be.  A tradition provides the context to allow the principles to be fully understood and applied appropriately.

Shamanism is not about what an individual feels comfortable with.  We need to learn from the uncomfortable parts of life too. We need to challenge ourselves and the others in our community in order to heal and grow.
